Army ABCP: From Flag to Separation Timeline
What happens after an Army Body Composition Program flag — counseling, dietitian referral, progress expectations, and the separation threshold.

Day 1 to Day 30
A flagged soldier gets an Action Code K on Day 1, counseling by Day 3, and a dietitian referral by Day 30. The program is corrective, not punitive, at the start.
Monthly progress
The expectation is 3–8 lbs or about 1% body fat per month. Two consecutive months without satisfactory progress can lead to administrative separation.
The program is corrective before it is punitive
The early stages of the program are structured around support rather than sanction: an entry flag, counseling, and a dietitian referral exist so that a soldier has a defined path back into standard. Separation becomes a possibility only after progress requirements are missed repeatedly. That sequence matters practically, because the first weeks are the point at which the intervention has the most leverage, and waiting to engage until progress has already stalled wastes the part of the process designed to help.
