VivMetric is an independent reference website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by the U.S. Department of Defense, any military branch, or any federal, state, or local government agency. All service names, marks, and regulations are the property of their respective owners and are referenced for identification only.
Educational reference only
All content on VivMetric — including body-composition thresholds, body-fat tables, fitness test descriptions, and calculator outputs — is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It is a summary of publicly available regulations and is not an official medical, recruiting, administrative, or legal determination.
No professional advice
Nothing on this site constitutes medical, fitness, recruiting, or legal advice. Calculators (for example the U.S. Navy circumference body-fat estimate) produce approximations that can differ from official assessments. Always confirm your status with a recruiter, commanding officer, medical professional, or hiring agency using the official test.
Accuracy and change
Standards are verified against primary sources as of 2026-08-19, but regulations change. VivMetric makes no warranty as to the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of any figure and disclaims liability for any reliance on the content.

Estimates versus measurements
Several tools here reproduce population equations rather than a direct measurement. A circumference body-fat estimate, for example, carries a margin of error of roughly three to four percentage points against a laboratory method, and its accuracy depends on where the tape is placed. An activity calorie figure describes what the activity costs an average person of that weight rather than what it cost you. Where a page states a margin, treat it as a limit on how precisely the output should be read.
Verify before an official assessment
A result from this site is planning input. The official determination is made by your service, unit, agency, or the administering department using their own protocol and equipment. If a figure here disagrees with what the responsible authority tells you, the authority governs, and the disagreement is worth reporting so the page can be corrected against the primary source.
Reporting an error
If a figure or a method on this site disagrees with the regulation, standard, or formula it cites, that is a defect and we want to know about it. Include the page, the value you believe is wrong, and the document you are reading the correct value from. Corrections are checked against the primary source rather than against another secondary summary.
